Thomas Lane Succumbs - Native of England, 85 Years Old, Died in Son's Home Last Night
Thomas Emmanuel Lane

Thomas E. Lane, 85, succumbed at the home of his son, George Lane, last night on the Maytag-Zirbel farm south of Newton, where he had lived for the past 3 1/2 years. Death was believed to be due to a fall which Mr. Lane suffered about 2 weeks ago. Funeral services will be held at Albia, Iowa at 2:00 p.m. Saturday and interment will be in the Albia Cemetery.

Thomas E. Lane was born to Emmanuel and Mary Jones Lane in Lancaster, England, January 19, 1859 and attended schools in England. At the age of 19, he moved with his parents to the U.S. and settled in Streator, Illinois. On September 17, 1880, he united in marriage to Christina Weir who was born in Scotland. They moved to Hiteman, Iowa where Mr. Lane worked as a coal miner.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Lane is preceded in death by his wife, and a brother and a sister. Surviving are his seven children, 4 daughters, Mrs. Lillie Peterson of Blair, Iowa; Mrs. E. Drexel of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. John Hay of Albia and Mrs. Frank Anderson of Moline, Illinois; and three sons, George Lane of Newton, Benny Lane of Albia and Tommy Lane of Eddyville, also a number of grand and great grandchildren of whom two grandsons and four great grandsons are in the services.

The body will remain in the Toland Funeral Home until Saturday when it will be taken to Albia for services. Mr. Lane was a member of the Forresters Lodge and United Mine Workers Union.
