Larry Koger Dies Sunday; Hiway Mishap
Larry R. Koger

Body of Larry R. Koger, 25, of Grinnell, was discovered in a field west of Kellogg Sunday morning, victim of a traffic accident.

Discovery was made about 9:30 a.m. Sunday by Tim Roth of Kellogg, who notified the Kellogg Fire Department and Jasper county Sheriff Ray Gaylor.

Dead Several Hours
Jasper county medical examiner said that Koger had been dead several to eight hours when the body was found.

An employee of the Maytag Co. at Newton, Koger had left work that afternoon and apparently remained in Newton for several hours. It was not known when he started back to Grinnell, alone in his pick-up truck.

Mishap took place during a heavy fog on a curve about one mile west of Kellogg on highway 6. Sheriff Gaylor surmised that Koger either couldn't see the curve because of the fog or that he had fallen asleep.

Missed Curve
Koger's truck failed to make the curve, traveled across a field for 380 feet, hit a creek bed and then apparently rolled over twice. Koger had been thrown from the vehicle and his body was 63 feet from where the truck finally came to rest. The truck was totally demolished.

The son of Russell E. and Fern Taylor Koger, he was born on Feb. 28th, 1937, at Newburg. He attended the Grinnell school and during his senior year of high school enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for four years.

Following his discharge, he was employed by the Maytag Co. of Newton. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

On Apr. 15th, 1960, at Unionville, Mo., he was united in marriage with Ruth Phipps. To this union was born one son, Timothy.

Survivors
Besides his wife and son, he is survived by two stepdaughters, Kathy and Patricia; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Koger of Grinnell; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Taylor, also of Grinnell.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wesnesday, from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home. Officiating willl be the Rev. Donald Rich, pastor of the First Assembly of God church.
