Elma M. Koger, 65, of Gilman passed away Thursday morning at a Grinnell hospital following an illness of the past year.
The daughter of John and Florence Green Vandeventer, she was born April 18, 1899, at Gilman, Iowa. She attended the Gilman schools and was a graduate of the Gilman high school. She attended the college at Cedar Falls and for a time taught the rural schools near Gilman. Later she graduated from a comptometer school in Des Moines and was employed in Peoria, Ill., and at Detroit, Mich.
On August 6, 1937, she was united in marriage with Roy H. Koger at Gilman. Since her marriage she had lived in Gilman and was employed by the local veterinarians and the Citizens Savings Bank. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, and the Les Femmes of the 40 & 8.
She is survived by her husband, Roy H. Koger of Gilman; two brothers, John Ray Vandeventer of Gilman and Cecil M. Vandeventer of Ottumwa; two sisters, Gertrude Baker of Sioux Falls, S. Dak., and Jean Buchanan of Grinnell.
She is preceded in death by her parents and by two brothers in infancy.
Funeral services will be Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home. The Rev. Norman Kauble, pastor of the Gilman Methodist church, will officiate and interment will be in the Prairie View Cemetery at Gilman.
