Geo. W. Mr. Kees was a man of very genial disposition, and during his long residence here had become acquainted with all the older resident of the community as well as many who have resided here a shorter period of time. Among this host of acquaintances there were none but friends. He lived continuously for thirty-five years in this locality. He leaves a wife and an adopted daughter thirteen years of age, and an aged father who has seen ninety years, resides at Chippewa Falls, Wis., besides numerous other relatives. The neighborhood in which Mr. Kees resided will feel keenly the loss of this kind neighbor and friend.

Mr. George W. Kees, who died quite suddenly at his home in Mound Prairie township, last Sunday, was a native of New York, and was aged at the time of his death, 67 years, 5 months and 20 days. While yet a young man he came west with his parents and located in Wisconsin, where, on the 8th of December, 1861, he was united in marriage with Sarah Jane Bond. Five years later these good people came to Iowa and located in Jasper county at the home where he passed away. Here they have lived and prospered all these years, till the end came so suddenly and unexpectedly. The fatal malady was heart disease, and Mr. Kees’ illness was of only a few days duration. The obsequies were from the residence last Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Dr. Turner and Mrs. Kiser, who made short and appropriate addresses, and the neighborhood choir sang appropriate selections, after which the burial at Rorabaugh cemetery ended the sad ceremony. Mr. Kees had no children; but an adopted daughter shares with her mother the sadness and loneliness of her bereavement.
