Obituary of Mrs. Israel Rorabaugh
Although long expected, the announcement last Sunday of the death of Mother Rorabaugh at her home in this place produced a feeling of profound sorrow, not unmixed with sincere sympathy for the bereaved children. After a long and painful illness the dear old mother passed to her reward, at the age of nearly 79 years, after a useful and eventful life, crowned with the blessings of a devoted progeny, all of whom are useful and respected members of society.
Phebe McQuillan was a native of Center county Pennsylvania, and survived less than three years the husband to whom she was united in 1845 – the father of twelve children born to them, and of whom seven survive her. For 45 years past she has been a citizen of Jasper county, and until within the past 14 years a resident of the old home farm in Mound Prairie township – the last years of her life being passed in the spring city. A devoted Christian mother, her life has been filled with good works, and her children rise up and call her blessed.
The funeral was from the M. E. church last Monday, conducted by Rev. Miller, of the U.B. church, an old friend of the family, and the interment was in the Rorabaugh cemetery, founded many years ago by her husband.
