Helphrey, Jay H.

A telegram was received by J. W. McLaughlin Tuesday announcing the death of Jay Helphrey at his home in Omaha that morning. The remains accompanied by his widowed mother and only brother, Mr. Warner Helphrey, and also by his aunt, Mrs. Wright Wilson, who had been visiting in Omaha, arrived in Newton last night, and the funeral was conducted from the Wilson’s home this afternoon, conducted by the Knights of Pythias.

Jay was born in this city and was a son of Samuel and Julia Helphrey, formerly well known here the father, a soldier in Company K, 28th Iowa, died while in the service. For several years Jay made his home in Omaha with his mother.
