GERRIT HEITINK DIES MONDY; FUNERAL TODAY

Gerrit M. Heitink, 71, of Grinnell passed away Monday evening at the Veterans hospital at Iowa City following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Heitink were held this afternoon (Thursday) at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with the Rev. Laverne Streich, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating.

Virgil Johnson, George Lavent, Harry Ashby, Jack Reynonds, Clair Royce and Melvin Gauley were pallbearers. V. B. Bailey, Oliver Milgate, Robert T. Ashby and Gus Kaisant, Jr., were honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Leonard Pearce was organist and Mrs. V. B. Bailey, Mrs. Robert T. Ashby and Mrs. Gus Kaisand, Sr. served on the flower committee.

Interment was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Military graveside rites were conducted by Focht-Tennant Post 53 of the American Legion. The son of Arnold and Harriett Wilmson Heitink, he was born on January 1, 1893, at Pella, Ia. He attended the schools of this community and on January 1, 1919, was united in marriage to Mary B. Brush at Newton. Following their marriage they farmed in the Lynnville communiy for ten years and in 1929 moved to the Grinnell community, where they farmed until 1949.

For the next twelve years, until his retirement in 1961, he was employed by the One Minute Washing Machine Company of Kellogg.

During World War I, Heitink served with the U. S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of World War I.

Heitink is survived by his wife, Mary; a son, Gerald of Allantic, Ia; a daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Rosalie) Hartzell of Grinnell; six grandchildren; and great grandson; his mother, Mrs. Harriett Heitink of Oskaloosa; a sister, Mrs. Eva Billick of Oskaloosa; and two brothers, Arnold of San Jose, Calif., and Harry of Eddyville, Ia.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.
