L. B. HEFFELFINGER DIED THURSDAY AT VETERANS HOSPITAL
Heffelfinger, Leonard B.

Leonard B. Heffelfinger, 49, died Thursday at the Veterans Hospital in Ft. Snelling, Minn., where he had gone for treatment a few week previous. He had been suffering from leukemia.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the Colfax Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul K. Potter and Rev. Ted Malinckrodt, Mingo, officiating.

Mr. Heffelfinger was a veteran of the navy, seeing service in World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Mr. Heffelfinger is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Heffelfinger of Colfax, three brothers, John, Paul and Hal; one sister of Hood River, Ore., six nieces and four nephews.

Jones-Willis Post American Legion of Colfax, had charge of the military service.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Howard Southern, Mrs. Louis Neal, Eldon Geisler and Otto Hulse.

Pallbearers were Francis Maher, Dwaine Clark, Joe Hand, Ralph Maxwell, Loren Kintz and Denver Byal.

Flower committee ­ Mrs. Dennis Cummings and Mrs. Ralph Maxwell.

Burial was in the Colfax [IA] Cemetery.

Obituary-Leonard B. Heffelfinger

Leonard Brice Heffelfinger, eldest son of Beatrice and Elmer Heffelfinger, was born near Otley, Iowa, Oct. 22, 1898, and departed this life February 5, 1948 at the Veterans hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., at the age of 49 years, 3 months and 14 days.

He was converted early in life at Tool's Chapel near Monroe.

He enlisted in the navy in August 1942, serving with the Seabees in the Aleutian Islands and was honorably discharged July 19, 1945.

He was in ill health a good part of the time while in the navy and after his discharge.

Leonard was a friend to all he met, never seeing a stranger.

He will be greatly missed by his parents and three brothers, John and Paul of Mingo, Hal of Mitchellville and one sister, Mable Schaumburg of Hood River, Oregon; several nieces and four nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon from the Colfax Methodist church with the Paul Potter, Colfax, and Ted Mallinckrodt, of Mingo, officiating.

Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery.
