Mrs. Alice Hellyer’s home has again been darkened by a great sorrow, and surely she has drunk from the cup of sorrow to the very dregs. Her daughter, Miss Grace, died at her home in Sherman Township last Saturday evening, and was buried in Newton Cemetery on Monday, the funeral services being held at the home at 10 o’clock a. m. conducted by Rev. E. J. Rice, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. The text was from Luke VIII:52 ­ She is not dead but sleepeth, and was full of comfort to the sorrowing mother and family.

Miss Hellyer was born in Sherman Township, August 23, 1875, where her home has been until her death. Her gentle, amiable disposition endeared her from her infancy to all with whom she came in contact. She was a bright and intelligent girl, and graduated at an early age from our public schools, afterward becoming quite successful as a teacher.

About four years ago, overtaxed probably by her schoolwork, her mind gave way under the strain and she was taken to the Mt. Pleasant hospital for treatment, where she remained until six weeks ago, when she returned home, entirely recovered from her mental disease, but with the seeds of consumption so planted in her system that it was evident that her life would be spared only a short time. She was converted and united with the Presbyterian Church of Newton in 1886, and remained a faithful and consistent Christian until called to her reward. She leaves behind her mother, one brother, Fred, and five sisters, Mrs. May Murdock and Minnie, Inez, Edith and Fay Hellyer, all of whom the tenderest sympathy is extended in this great affliction.
