Hawkins, Jacob

On Tuesday morning a telegram came announcing the death of Jacob Hawkins, He resided at Boulder, Colorado, for several years before his death. Mr. Hawkins was one of Monroe’s old and well respected citizens. If possible, we will send a more extended notice the coming week. The funeral services are to be held in Monroe, on Thursday morning, as his request was to be buried in Monroe.

Mr. Jacob Hawkins was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; came to Ohio when 22 years of age, where he was married to Elizabeth Rutter. To them were born six children, one of which is now living ­ his son James, who resides in Boulder, Colorado. He came to Monroe, Iowa in 1853. In 1865 his wife died. In 1866 he was married to Mrs. Margaret Donaldson, who with three children, Mattie, Lulu and Elton, survive him. In 1885 he moved with his family to Boulder, Colorado, where he resided until his death. He was a member of the M. E. Church nearly fifty years. He was always a pleasant companionable man and will be much missed by his friends. He was buried under the direction of Jasper Lodge, No. 168, I. O. O. F.
