Mrs. John Hay
Services were held this afternoon (Thursday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Lester Williams, pastor of the Calvary Baptist church, officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner.
In charge of flowers were Mrs. David Barns and Mrs. Glen Douglas. Pallbearers were David Barns, August DeVault, Virgil Doud, Glen Douglas, Oliver Milgate and Marlyn Olson. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.
She was the daughter of Taylor and Clementine Miller Barker and was born Oct. 10, 1879, at Mingo, Iowa. On Sept. 5, 1899, she was united in marriage with John Clayton Hay at Greencastle, Iowa.
To this union were born four children: the Rev. Morris Hay of Kellogg, Mrs. Vern (Opal) Milgate of Grinnell, John Hay of Searsboro, and Mrs. Nelson (Irene) Briggs of Kellogg.
Mr. and Mrs. Hay moved from the Mingo area in 1918 to live near Kellogg and then in 1933 they made their home in Grinnell.
She was a member of the Northside Friends church and when in better health had taught Sunday school.
Survivors include her four children, nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; one brother, Alva Barker of Gainsville, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Clayton Hay, on August 27, 1956; five brothers and two sisters.
