The Newton Record November 29, 1895
Death of Uncle Arth Harvin
Harvin, Arthur

Arthur Harvin, who has been a resident of Jasper County since 1852 died at the home of his son, David Harvin, early last Sunday morning at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 10 days. His death was a surprise to most of his friends in town, who had not even learned of his illness. He had always enjoyed excellent health, even down to old age, and only a week before his death, rode from his farm to town, on horseback, a distance of four miles.

Deceased was born in Lexington, Kentucky, January 15, 1803, and lived there until he was about twenty years of age, when he moved to Indiana and there was united in marriage with Miss Eliza J. Albin, June 22, 1837. In 1852 he came to Jasper County and settled on a farm, four miles west of Newton, where he resided until his death, honored and respected by his neighbors and acquaintances. To him were born nine children, six of whom, with their mother, had gone on before. One son and two daughters survive: David Harvin and Mrs. Amanda Lewallen, of this vicinity, and Mrs. Martha Parsley (formerly Mrs. Eph Bennett) of Garnett, Kan.

The funeral services were held at the family residence in Sherman Township, at 1:30 p. m., Tuesday, Dr. J. C. Jacoby officiating, and the interment was in the Newton Cemetery.
