M. C. HARTZELL, 90, DIES TUESDAY
Marion C. Hartzell

Funeral services for Marion C. Hartzell, 90, of Rte. 2, Grinnell, will be held at the Smith Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Hartzell died about noon Tuesday at a local hospital following a brief illness.

Officiating at the services will be the Rev. Dr. G. S. Bruland, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

Born Sept. 17th, 1870, near Disco, Ill., he was the son of Nathaniel Calendar and Mary Jane Koontz Hartzell. The family moved to the Grinnell area when he was seven years old and he received his early education at Grant Township school No. 4.

On June 2nd, 1897, near Grinnell, he was united in marriage with Ida Perry. To this union were born four children: Raymond R. Hartzell, Sr., Estella Hartzell, and Josephine Hartzell, all of Grinnell, and Mrs. Ermal (Alice) Sleeth of South Milwaukee, Wisc. Also surviving are his widow, Ida, at home and 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Mr. Hartzell farmed west of Grinnell for many years. He was a member of the Methodist church.
