RITES HELD FOR JOHN HARTSOCK, 80, LYNNVILLE RESIDENT
John Winfield Scott Hartsock

John Winfield Scott Hartsock, 83, a resident of the Lynnville area for more than 60 years, died Sept. 24 at an Oskaloosa nursing home.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 27, at New Sharon with the Rev. William Oberlander officiating. Vocal music was provided by Homer McDowell, accompanied by Mrs. Howard Macy.

Flower bearers were Mrs. Glen Van Genderen, Mrs. Charles Bryan, and Mrs. Ernie Selle. Pallbearers were Harold Thompson, Clarence Ver Steegt, Harold Riggs, Virgil Beason, Oval Black and Harold Beason. Interment was in New Salem cemetery south of Lynnville.

The son of Elisha and Elizabeth Hartsock, he was born Dec. 12, 1880, in Indianapolis, Ind. On Oct. 9, 1909, he was united in marriage with Neva Lawrence. Together, they operated a resturant in Lynnville for 30 years before retiring in 1958.

Mr. Hartsock had been in failing health for two years and had entered an Oskaloosa hospital in August. He was later transferred to a nursing home where he succumbed.
