Margaret De Jong
June 21, 1919 - October 25, 2019

Margaret De Jong, age 100 years, four months and four days, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2019, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella, Iowa. Margaret Pearl Monsma, the youngest sibling of Ben and Laura (Renaud) Monsma, was born on June 21, 1919, in rural Sully, Iowa. She graduated from Sully High School in 1937 and during high school played the violin and piano. On September 14, 1939, she was united in marriage with Arthur Garret De Jong at the First Reformed Church in Sully where she was and remained a lifelong member. Following their marriage Arthur began farming his parent’s, Dirk and Johanna (Kruseman) De Jong, farm and Margaret was very active in all of the farming operations. They continued to farm the same farm, a Century Farm, for 69 years until they retired in 1997. Margaret enjoyed cooking and canning the produce and had been a 4-H leader.

Those left to honor her memory are four children: Clarence Lee De Jong of Sully; Beverly Lou and her husband, Larry Stravers of Prairie City, Iowa; Betty Sue and her husband, Roger Vander Velden of Reasnor, Iowa; Darlene Ann Hyslope of West Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur De Jong, in 2007; her parents, Ben and Laura Monsma; three sisters and their husbands: Doris and Walter De Jong, Rachael and Ervie Mick, Freda and Oz Neilson; her brother, Glen Monsma and his wife, Wilhelmina; her parents-in-law, Dirk and Johanna De Jong; and her brother-in-law, Walter De Jong and his wife, Doris (Monsma).

Funeral services will be held
Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 2:00 pm
Van Dyk- Duven Funeral Home, Pella, Iowa

Private Family Interment will be made in Sully Cemetery, Sully, Iowa

Visitation with the family present will be from noon Tuesday until the time of service at Van Dyk- Duven Funeral Home

Memorial contributions are suggested for the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella, Iowa
