Funeral of Miss Sallie Hardesty
Hardesty, SallieThe remains of Miss Sallie Hardesty, who died in the hospital at Clarinda, on the 12th inst. (of this month), arrived in Newton Friday evening and were interred in Newton Cemetery Saturday morning, with short services by Rev. C. V. Cowan, a number of friends being present including several of the older members of the Masonic fraternity, who had been associated with the father of the deceased years ago, in Masonic circles.
Miss Hardesty was a daughter of R. J. and Esther Hardesty, both now deceased, formerly well known in this city. The death of the parents and brother and the financial reserves so prayed on the minds of Miss Sallie and her sister Clara, that they broke down mentally, and some six months ago were taken to the asylum at Clarinda. They were highly cultured young ladies and devoted to their parents and loved ones. Their case is a peculiarly sad one, which calls for the warmest sympathy of everybody.
