GEARHART, JOHANNAH (HILDEBRAND)MRS. JOHANNAH GEARHART DIES - Old Resident of Jasper County Dies of Apoplexy Last Night - Funeral at Metz Saturday
Mrs. Johannah Gearhart, 56 years old passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Baty in Mound Prairie township a few minutes before midnight yesterday. The cause of her death was apoplexy from which she had suffered for more than a year
Mrs. Jonnah[sic] Gearhart was born in Germany, May 1, 1862. She acme[sic] to the United States in 1880, coming to Muscatine where she made her home Germany, May 1, 1862.[sic] She came to Jasper county and she has since that time made her home in Sherman and Mound Prairie townships. She was a member of the Lutheran church having joined in Germany. Her husband died in 1907. She is survived three sons, Lewis and William of Mound Prairie, Fred at home and one daughter, Mrs. J. W. Baty
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Metz church. The Rev. Mr. Wikoff, pastor of the church of Christ at Colfax will have charge of the funeral

*Submitter's note: There is doubt if this is the correct year of immigration, as her husband's obituary (which she most likely wrote or supplied the information) states, "In June l7, l880, he was united in marriage to Johanna Hildbrant, the wedding taking place in Germany. One son, Louie, was born in Germany. In the year l882, they sailed for America, and after landing, settled in Muscatine. The following year they came to Jasper County and settled on the farm."
