GEARHART, LOUISLouis Gearhart Dead
At the late home, five and a half miles northwest of Newton on Monday evening, March l8th at five o'clock, occurred the death of Louis Gearhart. He had been ill for about two weeks of typhoid fever and his death came as a shock to the relatives and friends of the community
Deceased was born on May 7, l858, in Roden, Germany, and spent his boyhood days there. In June l7, l880, he was united in marriage to Johanna Hildbrant, the wedding taking place in Germany. One son, Louie, was born in Germany
In the year l882, they sailed for America, and after landing, settled in Muscatine. The following year they came to Jasper County and settled on the farm. Besides his wife, he leaves five children, four sons and one daughter, -- Louie who works on the Will Herboldt farm, Willie, Fred, Charley and Anna, the four making their home with their parents. Mr. Gearhart lived to the age of 49 years, l0 months, and eleven days
The funeral will be held Thursday, (tomorrow) at one o'clock, at the Sugar Grove Church, Rev. Dieffenbach, officiating. Internment will be made in the Metz Cemetery
