RAY FOSTER, 76, SERVICES TODAY
Ray FosterRay Foster, 76, of 427 East St., Grinnell, passed away Friday at Grinnell General Hospital East, following hospitalization for the past two and half weeks.
One of a family of 11 children, he was born in Chester Township to Benjamin W. and Anna Marie Burch Foster Oct. 15, 1891. He attended the rural schools near his home.
On Oct. 18, 1927, he was united in marriage with Edith Chedester at Gilman. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Floyd (Lorene) Barr of Kellogg, Mrs. Robert (Wanda) Neff of Grinnell, and Gerald Foster of Conrad.
Mr. and Mrs. Foster farmed in the Grinnell and Newburg area until his retirement seven years ago. They then moved to Grinnell. Before his health failed he was employed by Drs. Earl and Floyd Beaver, Grinnell veterinarians.
In addition to his widow and three children, Mr. Foster is survived by 14 grandchildren, two brothers, Roy and Clarence Foster of Grinnell; and one sister, Mrs. W. J. (Elsie) Erwin of Marshalltown. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters - - - Mrs. Angie Clindinin, Mrs. Fannie Huff, Mrs. Hattie Mae Chenoweth, and Mrs. Grace Harter; and three brothers - - - Earl Foster, Ralph Foster and Fenton Foster. Funeral services for Ray Foster were held at 2:30 p.m. today (Monday) at the Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Chester Custer officiated. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner. Pallbearers included Jack Chedester, Lee Chedester, Clair Erwin, LeRoy Foster, Benie Foster and Floyd Hunter. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.
