Shirley E. Foreman, 65, of 821 S. 13th Ave. E. died of cancer Thursday, Oct. 25, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral services were held today at the Wallace Family Funeral Home In Newton with the Rev. Jim Sears of the Christian Life Center in Newton officiating. Cremation followed the service. Memorials in her name may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Floyd and Retah Mills Rouse, she was born April 6, 1936, in Stahl, Mo. She moved to Newton in 1951. She married Donald Kelso Sr. She later married Clifford "Cliff" A. Foreman Oct. 24, 1964, in Newton. In the late 1960s and early 1970s she had a band, "Shirley and the Missouri Valley Boys." She and her husband Cliff owned and operated Cliff and Shirley's Cafe. She was ordained as a minister by United Faith Ministries on Nov. 4, 1996. She worked as a minister, counselor and evangelist. Mrs. Foreman was a member and co-founder of the High Adventure Christian Center and was head deaconess of the center.

Survivors include her husband Cliff, two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Donald and Sue Kelso of Newton and Rod and Beverly Kelso of Knoxville: two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl and Jon Gordon of Knoxville and Luanne and Ed Harl of Newton; 12 grandchildren, seven
great-grandchildren; a brother, Cleo Rouse of Bartlesville, Okla., three sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Keith Wood of Galesburg, Ruby and Elmer Ruggles of Novinger, Mo., and Evelyn and Don Pope of Green Castle, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, eight brothers and two sisters.
