John Fansler Dies in California
Fansler, John

We learn from the Colfax Clipper that John Fansler died at Santa Paula, Cal., on the 17th ult, (of last month) at the age of sixty-seven years. Jasper County people will remember Mr. Fansler as proprietor of the old Reed and Fansler mill on Skunk River four and a half miles east of Colfax, debris of the dam of which are still visible from the bridge, which still bears his name, although the old mill was torn down many years ago. Mr. Fansler was a resident of the locality near the mill for many years, removing hence to Guthrie County in this state, where he was also engaged in the milling business. Subsequently he moved to California and made his home in Santa Paula. Of late he has been dependent upon day’s work at flower trimming in which he was in demand, and which yielded him a comfortable income. He has been absent from Jasper County for about 15 years, but those of us who knew him best have never forgotten his genial kindly ways, and will share in the grief of his family in their bereavement.

Note: Three children named Fansler are buried in Sugar Grove Cemtery. Since Mr. Reed who ran the old Reed Mill is buried there, there is probably a link to the Fansler family, especially since the lot was purchased by J. Fansler.
