Mrs. Betsy Fales died at her home in this city, Saturday afternoon, August 24, 1895, in the forty-seventh year of her age.

Mrs. Fales was born in Colville, McKean County, Pennsylvania, November 16, 1848, and came with her father, Hiram Garey, to Jasper County, Iowa, in 1873. April 2nd, 1876, she was united in marriage to J. M. Fales, who had then four children by a previous marriage and to them she gave the tenderest care. For some time the deceased had been suffering from that dread disease, cancer, which finally caused her death. Mrs. Fales was an exemplary member of the United Presbyterian Church of Newton.

The funeral was held at the Christian Church, Monday, conducted by Rev. A. J. Patterson of Des Moines.
