Evans Dies of Accident Injury
Evans, Grover C.

Grover C. Evans, 46, died at Skiff Memorial hospital Sunday night, of injuries received when he was struck by an automobile Friday night.

Russell B. Wellman, of Des Moines, was driving the car which struck Evans down as he was crossing the street in the 700 block of First Avenue West.

Immediately following the accident, which occurred at about 11 p.m. Wellman took Evans to the hospital and then reported the mishap to the police.

Evans suffered fractures of both legs, a broken left arm and internal injuries. He died at 10:40 p.m.

Inquest Not Scheduled.

Acting Jasper county Coroner J. H. Faust said today that an inquest probably will not be held, although he said he had not completed the investigation.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the Congregational church of which he was a member. Burial was in the Sugar Grove cemetery near Metz. Dr. J. Irvine Walker, pastor of the Congregational church, will be in charge of the services.

Full military rites were held for Evans who was a member of Newton post No. 111 of the American Legion. Members of the post are to meet in the clubrooms Tuesday at 3 p.m. and go in the funeral as a body.

Army Record.

When he was 25, Grover came to Newton and was employed at the Maytag company factory for two years. He then enlisted in the United States army and was a corporal at Camp Pike, Ark., until the end of the World War.

After his discharge from the army, Grover returned to Newton and been employed with the Maytag company for 17 years.

Surviving besides his widow and 11-year old daughter, Mary, are Harry Evans, a twin-brother living in Newton; an older brother William Evans of Springfield, Ill., a sister, Mrs. Gladys Capellan of Dows, Ia., and his father Minner Evans of Newton.
