Ettelson, Lyle E., Sr.

Lyle E. "Moe" Ettelson Sr., 76, of 1800 N. 4th Ave. E. died Wednesday, Sept. 12, from complications of abdominal surgery at VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines. Memorial services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled. Memorials in his name may be left at Wallace Family Funeral Home.

The son of Jack and Lillian Reeves Ettelson, he was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1943. On July 3, 1954, he married Darlene C. Cassady in Newton.

Mr. Ettelson served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a plumber and owned and operated Moe's Tavern. He was a member of VFW Post 1655 and the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Teri of Hudson and Lyle "Ed" and Linda of Newton: a daughter, Lynda Collins of Newton; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers and two sisters.
