There were two deaths of well-known citizens of Monroe on New Year's Day Robert Johnston and Jesse Estle.

Mr. Estle was about forty-five yeas of age and unmarried, and belonged to one of the oldest families in the community. He had been suffering with lung trouble for some time, but his death was very sudden resulting from hemorrhage.
