The Newton [IA] Record Thursday, October 20, 1898
Dingman, Charlotte E. (Palmer)

Charlotte E. Palmer was born in the town of Luzerne, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, January 5, 1827. At the age of 17 years she was united in marriage to N. T. Dingman. After living together in their native state for 24 years, the moved to Jasper County, Iowa, in 1868, finally locating on a farm near Metz. In 1881 they left this farm and moved to Newton, residing here till the summons of death called them home first husband, who passed away August 31, 1897, at the age of 75 years, then the widowed mother, October 1, 1898, at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 27 days.

Mr. and Mrs. Dingman had lived happily together for nearly 53 years. Both were honest and industrious and tried to bring up their family in a manner, which would reflect credit upon their passage.

The summons was rather a sudden one, the deceased not being at all bedfast till about five days before her death. She was always an honest, capable woman, who tried to do her duty as she saw it, and although her troubles of late had been many and hard to bear, she bore up bravely and knew all that was going on around her till the last. Calling her children to her bedside before she died, she bade all adieu and wished them to live good lives and finally meet her in that better land.

The funeral was held at the home on West Main St., Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o’clock, Rev Chambers of the Presbyterian Church having charge of the service. The sermon was eloquent and forcible, and contained many impressive lessons for those living.

The interment took place in the Newton Union Cemetery, and the body was laid to rest beside that of her husband and other relatives.
