Grace Irene Walker Dammeier

Grace Irene Dammeier, 87, a resident of the Jasper County Care Facility, died of heart failure Sunday morning, Jan 5, at the care facility. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Newton Foursquare Church with the Rev. Robert Hinshaw, chaplain of the Jasper Country Care Facility, officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton after 8 a.m. Tuesday where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial in her name may be left at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dammeier was born May 4, 1909, in Monroe, the daughter of Jefferson Murry and Leona Mae Hitchler Walker. She married Lewis Henry Dammeier Dec 16, 1928, in Newton. A lifelong resident of Jasper County, she was a homemaker. She was a charter member of the Newton Foursquare Church a member of TOPS Iowa 689, a member of the Hook and Needle Club and taught Sunday school for 2 and 3 year olds for many years.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Derald and Darlene Dammeier of Indianola and Murry and Diane Dammeier of Newton; six daughters and three sons-in-law, Hilma Mae and Don McKinney and Arlene and Ray Boyer, all of Newton; Marceda and Larry Romick of Monroe; Merita Dammeier of Arcadia, Calif., Roma Mosher of Ottumwa and Luella Bragg and her special friend, Sam, of Grinnell; 31 grandchildren; 44 great- grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Glen Walker of Altoona and Hubert Walker of Des Moines; two sisters, Juanita Shoemake and Aletha Woody, both of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died Jan. 25, 1982; a daughter, Vera Boles; two sons-in-law, Keith Boles and Dick Mosher; a sister Elveretta Prindle; two brothers, Doyle and Elsmer Walker; and a great-granddaughter.
