Sudden Death of Two Sisters
Cowles, Allie and FannieMrs. A. J. Lappens, who will be remembered by Newton people as Miss Allie Cowles, died March 19th at 4 p. m. at Vina, California. At 12 o’clock the same date, Mrs. E. E. Witte, formerly Miss Fannie Cowles, died at Long Beach, Cal. The ladies were daughters of Sylvester Cowles, formerly of this city, where they were born and grew to womanhood. There deaths were sudden, and each left a little son about three years old. The two sisters were lovely girls and the news of their deaths will carry sorrow to the hearts of many old friends in this vicinity.
