Obituary of D. T. Cowman
Cowman, D. T.

Sometimes when life’s lessons have been learned We may see and know that lengthened breath Is not the sweetest gift God sends his friend And sometimes the sable pall of death Conceals the fairest boon his live can send. If we could push ajar the gates of life And stand within and all God’s workings see We could interpret all these tears and sorrows, And for each mystery find a key.

D. T. Cowman was born in Jasper Co., Iowa, March 16, 1878, and died at the home of his parents west of this city March 25, 1897, aged 19 years and 9 days. He was a young man of much promise and a general favorite with all who knew him. Besides the bereaved parents he leaves two sisters who are completely prostrated by this sudden summons. An only son and brother has been taken. The funeral was held at the M. E. Church of which deceased was a member, Saturday, 2 p. m. services being conducted by Rev. H. V. Adams, assisted by the other pastors of the city. The church was crowded, many failing to get in. Many from the surrounding country who had known D. T. in life came to pay the last sad tribute of respect to his memory. The floral decorations were profuse and beautiful. Although the roads are almost impassible, yet this was the largest funeral that has been known here for many years.
