OBITUARY
Copeland, Oscar P.

Oscar P. Copeland, son of Wm. and Jane Copeland, was born June 30, 1869, near Lynnville, Iowa, and passed away March 26th, 1915, at his home, 2703 Cottage Grove Ave., Des Moines, Iowa.

He was married to Dora Craven November 21, 1894, and moved to Marshalltown in 1900, and to Des Moines in 1904. He had resided in Des Moines since that time and had been in the employ of the Capital City Carriage Company for the last ten years.

Mr. Copeland is survived by his widow and three children; Bernice, Ronald and Marjorie, all residing at home; his mother, Mrs. Jane Copeland of Lynnville, a sister, Mrs. Ruth James of Lynnville, and a brother James Copeland of Searsboro.

Services were held at the home in Des Moines at 9:30, Saturday morning, after which the body was brought to Lynnville for interment.

Services were held at the residence of Mrs. James, Sunday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Doan and the body was laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery.

The music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mesdames C. O. Macy, C. W. Wildman and Messrs. Rayford Ratcliff and A. T. Gifford, with Mrs. W. A. Cunningham at the piano, who rendered “Nearer My God To Thee” very softly as a prelude to the services.

The floral offerings, which were many and beautiful, from his friends and employers, showed evidence of the esteem in which he was held, and bore eloquent, through silent, messages of sympathy to the bereaved ones.

Relatives from out of town, besides the immediate family, to attend the funeral were the Misses Ethel Audrey and Harriett James of Des Moines; Mamie James of Iowa City; Mr. and Mrs. Philip Garrigan, of Grinnell; Mr. and Mrs. James Taylor and baby of Montezuma; Mr. and Mrs. Worth Alexander of Oskaloosa; I. P. Copeland of Ewart, beside a number of old friends from near Ewart and Searsboro who had known the deceased as a young man, and Mr. A. E. James of Montezuma, a brother-in-law of Mrs. Ruth James.
