RITES HERE FOR MAE CHENOWETH, FORMER RESIDENT
Mae Chenoweth (nee Foster)Mrs. Mae Chenoweth, age 74, passed away Wednesday in Alhambra, California, where she had made her home for about the last 5 years.
She was born on June 28, 1889 in Poweshiek county, the daughter of Ben and Anna Burch Foster,one of a family of 11 children. Following her education in the local rural schools, she was united in marriage to Herman Arthur Chenoweth on December 24, 1936, at Loraine, Kansas. She and her husband lived in several parts of the country while he was employed as a railroad engineer for several railroads.
They moved to Grinnell from Gary, Indiana, when he retired from railroading, and began serving as secretary for the Grinnell Chamber of Commerence. Later follwoing his retirement from the Chamber of Commerce in 1958, they moved to Alhambra, California.
Her husband preceded her in death on July 5, 1962.
Survivors include her 5 brothers and 2 sisters; F. A. Foster, Mrs. John Harter, Sr., Ray Foster, Ralph Foster and Clarence Foster, all of Grinnell; and Mrs. Bill Erwin of Marshalltown, and Roy Foster of Califoria, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Mrs. Huff and Mrs. Clindinin; and one brother, Earl Foster.
She was a member of the Methodist church and the auxilary of her husbands' railroad union. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Chester Custer, pastor of the Grinnell Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be made in Hazelwood cemetery.
