Charlie Carrothers DeadCarrothers, Charlie
A letter from E. M. Cross of Des Moines brings the news of the death of Charlie Carrothers, which occurred at his home in Atlantic about noon last Sunday. About four weeks ago he had suffered a severe stroke of paralysis, but had rallied from its effects and was again able to attend to his business affairs about as usual when a second stroke came on Thursday last, from which he never regained consciousness, death resulting as stated on Sunday. His sister Lizzie and husband Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schmidt and Mr. Ed Cross were with him when he died. He leaves a wife, but no children.
Charlie was the youngest son of Williamson Carrothers, at one time Recorder of this county. He was born on a farm near Greencastle, but came to Newton when his father was elected recorder. The family moved from Newton to Des Moines in ’83 or ’84. During the past four or five years the father, mother and one sister, Cassie, have been brought to Newton for burial. Charlie was buried in Atlantic on Tuesday afternoon.
