Rites Today for Former Resident
Funeral services for Marinus De Reus, a former resident of Newton, were held this morning at Hamilton’s Funeral Home in Des Moines.
Mr. De Reus died Friday following surgery. He suffered a broken thigh and cracked pelvic bone in a fall at his home Feb. 6.
Mr. De Reus is survived by his wife, four daughters, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a brother, Dr. William DeReus of Denver, Colo.
Among the many nephews and nieces surviving are Mrs. Rex Lint, G. J. Vriezelaar and William DeReus, all of Newton.
Born near Pella May 13, 1882, he attended school in the Pella community, served his apprenticeship in Pella newspapers and came to Newton in the early 1900s working as a printer.
Later he worked as a printer in Des Moines, principally with the Iowa Homestead. He retired several years ago.
