PRAIRIE CITY -- Winifred J. Wilson, 89, of Prairie City, died Monday, June 21, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be on Friday at 2 p.m. at Prairie City United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Waveland Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 pm. The family has designated memorials to the Prairie City Library. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family following the burial for a time of fellowship at the church.

The daughter of Robert M. and Rachel Luke (McMullen) Thompson, she was born Sept. 28, 1914, in Laurel. She graduated from Prairie City High School. Following high school, she taught in country schools. On June 7, 1941, she married Forest J. Wilson in Newton. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, the Pleasant Hill Women's Society, the O.D.O. Club, Chapter AV P.E.O. and Chapter AJ T.T.T.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Louise Wilson of Monroe; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Jerry Pezzetti of Ankeny; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Lillian Vanderzyl; and four brothers, William, Roy A., Lester and her twin brother, Wendell, who died in infancy. ~ Newton Daily News, Wednesday, June 23, 2004
