Elizabeth Kalma, 79, of Newton died Monday, June 7, at her home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Community Reformed Church with the Rev. Neal S. Busker officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
The family will greet friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to Community Reformed Church or to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the morning of the service.
The daughter of William and Maria (McGee) Smyth, she was born Aug. 9, 1924, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She graduated from Fane Street High School in Belfast and attended a trade school for two years. On Sept. 14, 1944, she married Richard Kalma in Urmston, England. She worked in Quality Control at the Maytag Company for 30 years and retired in 1980. She was an active member of Community Reformed Church and Community Reformed Women. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's special events and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mariea and Bennie Bucklin of Baxter and Kathy and Calvin Winn of Newton; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Richard Howell of Newton; and her extended family in Northern Ireland.
