BETTENDORF -- Berneta Rose (McCargar) Hartman, 61, of Bettendorf, formerly of Newton, died Tuesday, April 20, at her residence.

Celebration of life services were held at Edgewood Baptist Church in Rock Island, Ill.

The daughter of Stanley and Kathrine McCargar, she was born July 16, 1942, in Newton. She attended Newton schools and as a child delivered the Newton Daily News. She married John R. Hartman on Feb. 7, 1960. She was a sales representative in the food brokerage business for 23 years. Most recently she served as a chaplain for Genesis and Trinity Medical centers. She also counseled for Crisis Pregnancy centers. She was a professional clown.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters and sons-in-law; two sons and daughters-in-law; 11 grandchildren; one sister and her parents of Independence, Mo.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Ray McCargar. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Tuesday, June 8, 2004
