Burdette Green, 74 of Newton died Wednesday, June 16, at Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church. The Rev. Harold Koughn will officiate. Burial will be held at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held Friday at the funeral home after 2 p.m. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Skiff Medical Center Foundation.

The son of Edwin and Cora Marie (Marion) Green, he was born Nov. 16, 1929, in What Cheer. On April 1, 1951, he married Nellie Kirk in Oskaloosa. She died in June 1995. On June 15, 2003, he married Loretta Shilling Pifer in Des Moines.
Mr. Green worked for the Maytag Company for 38 years. Following his retirement he had started his seventh summer working at Adventure Land in Altoona. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local #997 and was involved with Parents Without Partners and active at the Senior Center in Newton. He enjoyed playing pool and shot a game with Minnesota Fats.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Wayne Walker of Knoxville; step-children, Gail Allen and her husband David of Charlotte, Mich., Cindy Hughes and her husband Ron of Indianapolis, Ind., Randy Pifer and his wife Denise of Vermontville, Mich., and Sandy Weaver of McAllen, Texas; he is also survived by 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his step-mother, Mildred Green of Ruskin, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, a sister, Byrel, and a brother, Everett. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Thursday, June 17, 2004
