SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Max C. Geise, 89, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Newton, (IA) died Tuesday, June 28, in San Diego.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Newton Union Cemetery with the Rev. Don Freeman, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church in Newton officiating. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

No visitation is scheduled. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be left to Boy Scout Troop 354 of Newton. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Edward H. and Mary Gertrude (Parsons) Geise, he was born March 2, 1915, in Newton. He was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1933 and Iowa State University in Ames in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a part of the 828th Engineer Aviation Battalion. In January 1945, he married Margaret M. Moore.

Mr. Geise worked as a mechanical engineer for General Electric and the U.S. government. Following World War II, he lived in Lenox, Mass.; Shelbyville, Ind.; Kingston, R.I.; and Camarillo, Calif., prior to moving to San Diego, Calif.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne R. and Carol Geise of South Reading, Vt.; five grandchildren; and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother, Gerald Geise. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Wednesday, June 30, 2004
