Louise I. Evans, 84, of Newton, formerly of Colfax, died Monday, June 28, at Nelson Manor in Newton.

Memorial services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax. The Rev. Paul Elliott will officiate the service. A private family burial will be held at the Colfax Cemetery. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax is handling arrangements.

The family will greet friends following the memorial service at the church with a time of food and fellowship. Memorials may be given to the Howard Street Christian Church or Hospice of Jasper County.

The daughter of Thomas and Minnie (James) Mindham, she was born April 1, 1920, in Colfax. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1939. On Dec. 2, 1945, she married William D. Evans. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of others.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Joyce Evans of Falcon Heights, Minn.; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Laura Mae; and four brothers, Martin, James, Thomas and Glen Mindham. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Wednesday, June 30, 2004
