Damon Paul Dixon, 101, of Careage of Newton died Monday, June 28, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. David Smiley, pastor of Newton First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. A coffee time will be held at Pence-Reese Funeral Home Tribute Center following services.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 1 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his name or to the First Baptist Church.

The son of John W. and Icy (Rouse) Dixon, he was born Oct. 26, 1902, in Putman County, Mo. He attended country schools. On Oct. 19, 1925, he married Mildred Hennon in Unionville, Mo. He worked in the tool room for the Maytag Company for 38 years. He was a member of Newton First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Don Knight of Newton; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Junior Dixon of Unionville, Mo.; a sister, Ruby Grass of Newton; a sister-in-law, Rema Dixon of Unionville, Mo.; and special friend, Jim Vermillion of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Dixon; a daughter, Deloris Reynold; six brothers, George, Dana, Wally, Virgil, Floyd and Dorse Dixon; and three sisters, Lisa Pearl Dixon in infancy, Juanita Stewart, Mary Lou Trent. ~ Newton Daily News, Tuesday, June 29, 2004
