VASQUEZ, TOVAR, RODRIQUEZ

Juana T. Vasquez, 89, of Newton died Wednesday, July 21, at Heritage Manor Care Center in Newton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton with the Rev. Phil Cardenzana of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in rural Newton. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A prayer service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The daughter of Victoriano and Timotea (Rodriquez) Tovar, she was born June 24, 1915, in Mexico. She married Feliciano Vasquez in 1944 in Mexico. She was a homemaker and worked as a housekeeper at Churchill Hotel in Newton. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She lived in Mexico prior to moving to Newton in 1944. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, sewing, doing mending for her family and cooking for her family.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Manual and Ione Vasquez, Daniel and Sally Vasquez, all of Newton, and Gregory and Cherry Vasquez of Des Moines; one daughter in Mexico; 22 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister in Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Antonio Barrientos, a daughter in infancy and a brother. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Friday, July 23, 2004
