VERBER, CRAVEN, WALKER

Garry V. Veber, 68, of 4954 Highway T12 E. died Thursday, July 8, at his home in rural Newton.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg with the Rev. Jim Olson officiating. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Family will greet friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to Zoar Church or to the American Cancer Society and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Erville and Dorothy (Craven) Veber, he was born July 14, 1935, in Kellogg. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1953, Iowa State University in 1957, received a master's degree from the University of Denver in 1959 and a doctorate from Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo. He was a chemical engineer. On June 19, 1959, he married Mary Alice Walker in Denver, Colo.

Mr. Veber enjoyed fishing, gardening and landscaping and spending time with his family. He was a member of the 1952 Newton football state championship team and received Des Moines Register First Team All-State Honors. He moved away from Newton in 1953 and returned eight years ago.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Walker and Sheri Veber and Mark Garry Veber, all of Newton, and Kreg William and Renee Veber of Warner Robbins, Ga.; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Gayle Veber of Portland, Ore., Kent Quinn of Des Moines and Kirke Quinn of Boone; and his mother, Dorothy Quinn of Newton.
