Marjorie Carolyn Sarvis, 89, of 327 W. Eighth St. N. died Friday afternoon, Aug. 13, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in her name or to Jasper County Historical Society.

The daughter of Vern and Mabel (Brodersen) Vanness, she was born Dec. 15, 1914, in Newton. She was a graduate of Newton Senior High School. On Aug. 10, 1946, she married Herman Sarvis in Newton. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. Sarvis worked for Pettit Cleaners and Bruce Cleaners, was a homemaker and enjoyed bingo.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Jim and Roxann Wormley and Sandy and Gary Kaput, all of Newton, and Cinda and Alan Kornblum of St. Paul. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Saturday, August 14, 2004
