Howard Arthur "Ike" Nimmo, 74, of Adel, formerly of Monroe, died Sunday, July 25, at the Carlisle Care Center.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Alzheimer's Research in his name.

The son of Howard A. and Jane (Hart) Nimmo, he was born July 25, 1930, in Monroe. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1948 and earned his bachelor's degree in business and education from Simpson College in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and earned three Bronze Stars. On Sept. 9, 1954, he married Carolyn Mayhew at the First Methodist Church in Newton.

Mr. Nimmo worked as an accountant at Automatic Washer in Newton. He later became C.E.O. of Monarch Manufacturing in Waukee and also owned Champion Auto in Perry. He was a former Rotarian in Adel. He lived in Mt. Ayr for six months, Newton for two years, Des Moines for one year, Carlisle for eight years and Adel for the past 37 years.

Survivors include his wife; five children, Bruce Nimmo of Des Moines, Linda Cook of Denver, Colo., Brenda Nimmo of Newton, Laura Keasey of Dallas Center and Greg Nimmo of Adel; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Imogene Dailey, Betty McConeghey and Joann Hollingsworth, all of Monroe; and two brothers, Harry Nimmo of San Francisco, Calif., and Herbert Nimmo of Waukee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harlan Nimmo. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Wednesday, July 28, 2004
