Bonnie L. Norris, 78, of Newton died Saturday, July 3, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday after 9 a.m. A coffee time with the family will be held at the Tribute Center following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County.

The daughter of Lee Roy Shaver and Elsie D. Yardley, she was born Nov. 16, 1925, in Sullivan County, Mo. She attended schools in Missouri and on Aug. 14, 1963, she married John B. Norris in Prairie City. She worked at Parson's Company for 25 years and for State of Iowa Corrections for 20 years. She retired in 1991. Mrs. Norris enjoyed vegetable gardening and visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include one step-daughter, Jo Jonas of St. George, Utah; two step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Junior Shaver of Newton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia Shaver and Dorothy and Max Rabourn, all of Newton; two nephews; two grandnephews; three grandnieces; and one great-grandnephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a step-grandson and an infant brother. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Monday, July 5, 2004
