Kenneth Keith McKinney, 80, of Newton died Monday, Aug. 16, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to USA Healthcare Building Fund.

The son of William and Etta Jane (Hopkins) McKinney, he was born Nov. 28, 1922, in New Virginia. He attended school in Liberty and Newton. On March 6, 1947, he married Jennie Louise Swank in Newton. He was a light equipment operator for the City of Newton and retired as a police officer from the Newton police department.

Mr. McKinney was a lifetime member of VFW Newton Post 1655. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the USS South Dakota in the Battle of Midway.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tom K. and Mary McKinney of Kellogg, Edwin L. and Linda McKinney of Newton and John W. and Cheryl McKinney of Monroe; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John, Don, Roy and Willy McKinney; three sisters, Ethel Davidson, Ina Gilpatrick and Belva Weekland; and two infant brothers. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Tuesday, August 17, 2004
