John C. Willet Dies at Ira at Age of 79 Years
IRA – John Cushman Willet, long-time resident of Ira, died Wednesday night at 10:30 p.m., just a few hours before his eightieth birthday anniversary.
Mr. Willett suffered a paralytic stroke Saturday, Oct. 2, while in Mingo on business and had been critically ill since.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Methodist church Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Mr. Willet had carried mail from the depot to the Ira post office for many years. At one time he was employed on the railroad section.

IRA – Death claimed a pioneer resident of Iowa in the death of John Cushman Willets, who died Wednesday evening, Oct. 6 at his home in Ira. Death was due to a paralytic stroke which he suffered Oct. 2, and from which he never regained consciousness.
J. C. Willets was born Oct. 7, 1857, in Jasper, Ind., and if he had lived until the following day he would have been eighty years of age.
He came to Iowa when a young man and lived in and around this vicinity for nearly 36 years.
On Dec. 24, 1902, he was united in marriage to Lucy Zimmerman. To this union one son, Thomas Robert, was born.
Mr. Willetts had carried the mail and worked for the Chicago and Great Western railroad for the past sixteen years.
Those of the immediate family surviving are his wife and son, two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Harris of Harris, Ia., Mrs. Edith Klatt of Clarksville, Ia., two brothers, Will of Albia, Ia., and Arthur of Harris, Ia., and several nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church in Ira by the pastor, Carl Gray.
Misses Esther and Doris Gray sang “Face to Face,” “We Are Going Down the Valley” and “There Is No Night There.”
Pallbearers were Garet Logsdon, J. P. Miller, Dick Beals, Gilman Castor, Les Gearheart and George Plumb.
Those attending the services from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Joy Hall and family of Bondurant, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Edwards, Mrs. Nellie Shaffer and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Edwards and Wayne, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Edwards and family of Des Moines, Mrs. Charley Perrin of Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kloppenburg and family of Rhodes, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hall and William Willets of Albia. Interment was at the Union Chapel cemetery west of Ira.
