C. C. Warner Killed by Falling Tree
Mingo Laborer, in WPA Employ, Dies Instantly
Was Grubbing Out Tree in Rushville Neighborhood North of Kellogg
Tree Caught Him Before He Could Get Away; Working For County in Clearing Out Highway
Chandos C. Warner, 35-year-old WPA worker from Mingo, Ia., was crushed to death beneath a tree fellow workmen were felling about 11 o’clock this morning on the Hugh Adams farm in the Rushville neighborhood north of Kellogg. Dr. E. A. McMurray of Newton, county coroner, said the worker died of a crushed chest soon after he was struck by the tree. No inquest was held.
Mr. Warner was one of a party of several workmen grubbing out brush and trees along a county road to make way for widening of a county road.
When the tree started to fall workmen rushed from the pit which had been dug around the roots, but Mr. Warner was caught by the trunk of the tree before he could get clear of the hole.
The Adams home is located about five miles north of Kellogg.
Mr. Warner, a WPA worker for about 12 months, is survived by his wife and three children. His children are 10, eight and three years old. It was reported here that the body was taken to a Baxter funeral home.
