Former Kellogg Resident Dies
KELLOGG – John Turner, 60, former resident of this community, died early Friday morning, Oct. 1 at St. Frances hospital in Grinnell. He had been in failing health for the past year and was taken to the hospital three weeks ago.
Funeral services were held at the Smith Funeral home in Grinnell Sunday afternoon and burial was made in the Rock Creek cemetery.
Mr. Turner was born May 28, 1877 in Monticello, Ky. He was united in marriage in 1895 to Miss Mary Green at Monticello and to this union eight children were born, two of whom preceded him in death.
The family came to Iowa in 1916 and since that time have lived near Kellogg and Grinnell.
Surviving relatives include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Gus Corwin of Greensburg, Mo., and Mrs. Montie Mortenson of Kellogg; four sons, Harman, Perry and Hilliard of Grinnell and Vernon of Searsboro; nine grandchildren; four brothers, Fred Turner of Pittsburg, Kan., Leslie Turner of Akron, O., Elmer Turner of Jebez, Ky., and Oliver of Monticello; four sisters, Mrs. Albert Burton of Kellogg, Mrs. Daudie Gossage, Mrs. Florence Gossage, Mrs. Forda Gossage, all of Monticello.
