MONROE – Mrs. Catherine Roush, 78, died Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Russell Veon home here. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Monroe Methodist church, with Rev. R. R. Moser in charge. Burial will be in Monroe cemetery.
Mrs. Roush was born, March 4, 1858, in Marion county southwest of Monroe. Her parents were Richard and Leah Roush Thomason and she was one of a family of eight children.
She married Jasper Roush, March 4, 1876, and to this union were born 14 children, seven of whom are living. Mr. Roush died Nov. 22, 1901.
Mrs. Roush had been an invalid during the past 14 months and had suffered several strokes during that time.
Survivors include seven children, Mrs. Bessie Verhuel, Monroe; Mrs. Ann Harshner, Newton; Lucy Hagan, Otley; Roscoe Roush, Rockwell City; Thomas and Elmer Roush, Newton, and Mrs. Pearl Veon, Monroe; two stepchildren, Rachel and Robert Roush, both of Monroe, and a brother James Thomason, Long Beach, Calif.

MONROE – Catherine Rebecca (Thomason) Roush was born in Red Rock township, Marion county, Iowa, March 4, 1858, and at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 24 days, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Russel Veon, of Monroe, Sunday, Feb. 29. She spent her entire life in the vicinity of and in Monroe.
On March 4, 1876, she was married to Jasper Roush, who died late in 1901.
It was after her husband’s death that Mrs. Roush established her home in Monroe where she lived until a few months ago, when on account of advanced age and failing health she went to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Russel Veon.
She was the mother of 14 children; seven of whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by seven children, Mrs. James Ver Huel, of Monroe, Mrs. Jack Harshner, of Newton, Mrs. Oakley Hagan, of Otley, Roscoe Roush, of Rockwell City, Thomas and Elmer of Newton, and Mrs. Russel Veon.
There are also two step-children, Rachael Hummel and Robert Roush, of Monroe; twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a brother James Thomason, of Long Beach, Calif.
Funeral services were conducted at the M. E. church on Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. R. R. Moser officiating.
Interment was made in the Monroe cemetery. Pallbearers were M. C. Cramer, George Kane, George Poortenga, Dick Acklin, Harry McComas, and Mark Valentine.
Music was furnished by Louise Cash and Meriam Huigen, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Carl Ammer.
